Why On Location?

Some photographer's say they prefer outdoors on location shoots because of the "beauty of natural light." While natural light (especially during the "golden hour") is beautiful, chances are these photographer's do not like the complexity or difficulty of shooting with off camera flash.  The truth is, good photographers can make light anywhere if the photographer knows their craft. In fact, most of the best portrait images rely on off camera lighting, even in daylight.

Mixing ambient (daylight) and off camera flash ensures that under any conditions, optimum results are achieved. So, do not be alarmed if you are surrounded by Nikon flashes!

However, there are instances in which studio work may be required or requested by the client.  If this is the case, Joe can secure a studio to meet your needs or refer you to a studio. Additional costs are involved.

About Joe

Portrait Tips

Sleep:  proper sleep is critical to a successful portrait.

Nutrition and hydration: ensure you eat properly a few hours before the session. Also, proper hydration is critical. Proper hydration begins days before the shoot.

Blemishes:  Joe provides automatic blemish removal unless specifically requested otherwise.  Using too much makeup to cover blemishes typically yields an unnatural look.

Hair: allow approximately 1 week for new haircuts to grow out,

Make-Up: makeup must be blended into your neck smoothly.  Bring chap stick or lip gloss to the shoot to keep lips moist.

Clothes: pattern and logo free clothing is always preferred for photography sessions. Prepare your clothing selections the night before, attaching accessories to the hangar in a zip lock bag. Choose colors and clothes that reflect the season and your style. Feel free to bring multiple changes of clothes with you to the shoot.

Smile: smiling and serious expressions represent great contrast in photography. So, relax and enjoy yourself! Joe uses a journalistic approach to portraits and will guide you in your movements and expressions.  So, don't worry.

For The Kids

With Children, maintaining a normal sleep and meal time schedule prior to the session can be invaluable.   Schedule variations from established routines can cause a child to become grumpy or unwilling.

There comes a time when kids are just plain done however.  As a parent, you know when this time arrives. Even with the most attention to detail and maintaining routines, your child may just be having an off day.  With that in mind I provide, at photographer discretion, mini-sessions with no additional charge if we do not get enough shots during the first session.

If your child has a special diet, bring along a few home-snacks just in case.  Favorite toys are welcome as well, and can be included in the photos.
